Parking Appeals

  1. Who may make appeals and how:
Persons who have been issued a parking or traffic citation and believe extenuating circumstances precipitated the violation may, in writing, appeal the assessment. Documentation of the extenuating circumstances should be included in the appeal. Appeal forms are available at Campus Parking Services and the NIU Department of Public Safety. You may also file your appeal electronically. A separate form is required for each citation unless the violations are directly related. If the appeals process is utilized, the assessment for a denied appeal shall be the full amount.

  2. Time period for making appeals:
Appeals must be filed with Campus Parking Services within 10 calendar days of the citation date. All appeals are adjudicated by the Parking Appeals Committee. Appeals filed after 10 days may not be accepted. Upon denial of a written appeal, a personal appeal before the Parking Appeals Committee may be requested. Appointments for personal appeals must be made with Campus Parking Services within 10 calendar days from the denial date. A
second written appeal may be submitted in lieu of a personal appeal. Persons who are unable to attend their second appeal appointment must contact Campus Parking Services 24 hours in advance. Failure to appear is an automatic denial.

  3. Decisions of Appeals Committee:
The decisions of the Parking Appeals Committee are final.
